FAQS
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if I need to hire a lawyer?
If you're facing a legal issue, entering into a contract, involved in a dispute, or unsure about your legal rights, consulting a lawyer early can protect your interests and prevent costly mistakes. At Erugo’s Attorneys and Consultants, we provide tailored advice whether your matter is personal, commercial, regulatory, or public interest-related.
How long will my case take?
Case timelines vary depending on the nature, complexity, and jurisdiction of your matter. While some corporate registrations or contract reviews may be completed within days, civil litigation or appellate matters can take months or years. We provide realistic timelines at the outset and keep you informed at every stage of your case.
How much will it cost to hire your firm?
Our fees depend on the nature and scope of your legal needs. We offer:
- Hourly billing for consultations and advisory
- Fixed/project-based fees for services like company registration, IP filings, etc.
- Retainer packages for ongoing advisory
- We always provide a clear fee structure and engagement letter before proceeding.
Note: We also offer initial consultations to assess your matter and determine the best fee arrangement for your budget and goals.
Will my information remain confidential?
Yes. As legal professionals, we are bound by strict ethical and professional rules regarding client confidentiality. All information shared with us — whether during consultation or representation — is treated with the highest level of discretion and legal privilege.
What should I bring to my first consultation?
Please bring any relevant documents, identification (where applicable), and a brief written summary of your matter. This allows us to offer accurate, efficient advice. For litigation matters, previous court documents, letters, or contracts are particularly helpful.
Will I have to go to court?
Not necessarily. Many disputes can be resolved through mediation, arbitration, or negotiation. If court action becomes necessary, we will advise you, prepare your case thoroughly, and represent you every step of the way.
Do you offer pro bono services or reduced fees?
Yes. We are committed to justice and public service. Through our Pro Bono and Public Interest Desk, we take on select cases involving human rights, access to justice, and vulnerable populations — subject to capacity and merit. If you believe your case qualifies, please let us know.
Can you assist clients outside Nigeria or in other states?
Absolutely. Our firm serves clients across Nigeria and internationally, including expatriates, multinational corporations, and Nigerians in diaspora. We are fully equipped for virtual consultations and remote legal service delivery.
How do I formally engage your firm?
Once you contact us, we’ll schedule an initial consultation. If you choose to proceed, we’ll send you an Engagement Letter outlining the scope of work, fees, and responsibilities. Upon signing and payment of an initial deposit (where required), your case will be formally opened and assigned to a dedicated team.
